The first lady highlighted the need for paid sick days, paid parental leave, and high quality on-site childcare, yet she was not suggesting that the government take charge of creating these policies, instead she steered her focus towards "the corporation."
While there have been many cases made that show that a stronger work/life balance and more women in the workplace is better, economically, for companies. Yet, with the economy as poor as it is, it seems unlikely that employers would start adding more benefits.
